There's no denying that Sony is pulling out all the stops to ensure that its Spider-Man universe is able to keep up with Kevin Feige's Marvel Cinematic Universe and so far, the studio has done a tremendous job of creating its own shared universe which was first established via 2018's Venom film. Sony's refreshing approach to the Spider-Man lore shifts the focus to Peter Parker's villains and as it stands, we still have no idea whether or not Tom Holland will end up joining the fray.

Now, Sony's Spider-Man universe is adding another baddie to its roster as Kraven the Hunter will finally make his highly-anticipated live-action debut. Just this week, the studio finally announced the actor who will breathe life into arguably Spider-Man's most ruthless villain and it's none other than English actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is best known for his role as Pietro Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Apparently, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch wasn't aware that the star of the upcoming action flick Bullet Train was previously part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Variety, Panitch said that he had to look Taylor-Johnson up after learning about his Kraven casting.

He shared: "It was a ‘I had to look him up' kind of thing. I didn't have a lot of familiarity. And then we start watching these incredible dailies [from ‘Bullet Train'], and you really see the full-on action star. He's charming and he's funny and he's holding his own against Brad Pitt. A lot of people can't do that."

Sony hasn't exactly ruled out the possibility of their Spidey universe crossing over to the MCU but with the former Quicksilver being cast as Kraven, there's no denying that everything has become a little more confusing than it already is. It's actually hard to tell whether or not the "Sonyverse" is actually set within the MCU but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Other details about Sony's Kraven the Hunter project have yet to be disclosed.
