Deadline notes that other A-list stars like Hollywood icon Brad Pitt and Star Wars' Adam Driver were also in contention for the role but Sony ultimately tapped Pitt's Bullet Train co-star Taylor-Johnson after taking notice of his performance in the upcoming action film. Of course, most fans are aware of the actor's ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron which is why his casting as Kraven took everyone by surprise. Check out some of the reactions here:

If anything, this may confirm that a return as Quicksilver is no longer on the table for the Kickass star amid ongoing rumors of him getting resurrected in the MCU. More importantly, this stunning casting reveal may have confirmed that an actual crossover between the MCU and the Sonyverse isn't truly possible despite Tom Holland's Spider-Man being the common denominator.

Sony's Kraven the Hunter film is slated to hits cinemas on January 13, 2023.
