Netizens can’t help but react to KBS’s move to feature the former couple Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki’s Descendants of the Sun kissing scene on its 50th-anniversary video presentation during the special concert, Your KBS, Out 50 Years.

Though Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki used to be one of the hottest couples in South Korea, the clip still left a bad taste in many’s mouths, considering the latter is already married to Katy Louise Sanders and is having a child.

The Controversial Kissing Scene

The live concert was broadcasted on KBS 1TV and hosted by Choi Soo Jong, Chae Shi Ra, and Kang Ho Dong.

Gummy took the stage to sing Descendants of the Sun’s official soundtrack, “You Are My Everything.” From there, the network featured the 2016 hit drama’s lead stars’ kissing scene.

Though they used to be one of the celebrated couples on TV back then, it has been known that Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki have already parted ways.

The pair started dating after the said K-drama ended and tied the knot in 2017. But they called it quits after just a year and nine months and officially divorced in 2019.

That said, netizens saw the move to feature their kissing scene as “inconsiderate” after what happened, especially now that the Reborn Rich star is married, per AllKpop.

"Did they have to show that?" one fan asked. "They need to read the room," added another. "That was tasteless,” a different netizen commented.

Song Hye Kyo, Song Joong Ki’s Divorce

Song Joong Ki’s attorney Park Jae Hyun first announced the couple’s split, resulting in his client’s filing for divorce on June 26, 2019.

The actor then released an official statement, apologizing to his fans and hoping for an “amicable divorce.”

Hello. This is Song Joong Ki. First, I’d like to apologize for delivering this unfortunate news to the many fans who love and care for me,” he wrote, per Soompi.

“I have begun the process of filing for divorce from Song Hye Kyo. Rather than denouncing one another and arguing over who is to blame, I hope that the divorce process can be wrapped up amicably,” he continued. “I ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that it is difficult to discuss the details of my personal life, and I will recover from my current wounds and do my utmost as an actor to repay you through great productions in the future.”

Song Hye Kyo’s agency, United Artists Agency Korea, alternatively issued its own statement to respond to and confirm the news.

“We find it unfortunate that we are greeting you with unhappy news. After careful consideration, actress Song Hye Kyo and her husband are taking the first steps toward a divorce,” the company’s rep revealed.

“The reason [for the divorce] is differences in personality, and because the two were unable to overcome their differences, they were forced to come to this decision,” the spokesperson added. “We respectfully ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that we cannot confirm any further details out of respect for the two actors’ personal lives. Additionally, we urge you to refrain from making scandalous posts and speculative comments.”
