What Happened in Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 9?
In Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 9, A Beacon of Hope, Ben guides Josie and Layton as they approach a rail car that supposedly has Melanie inside and Josie noticed that it is located at a parallel track. The three of them do their share to lift the rail car and successfully connect it to Snowpiercer.
In a twisted turn of events, Melanie is there, alive but unconscious because she is too suspension drugs to stay away from dying. Dr. Pelton takes Melanie under her care and she completes her full recovery and finally reunites with her daughter, Alex, and her beau, Ben. She visits Wilford who tells Melanie that New Eden is the plan of the train and he tells her that it is not a safe option for everyone aboard.
Melanie looks over the data she collected and sees that there is a probability for life to exist beyond the train, however, New Eden is nothing as promised given that the risk is too much given that the possibility is quite low. She tells this to Layton who still considers the mission as the last hope of humanity to survive the freeze.
Layton and Zarah finally decides to separate and they vow to be co-parents to Liana. Layton tells Josie how much he loves her but things are really not going well with Layton as she rejected him. Love isn’t dead on the train, though, as Bess and Audrey decide to date after a night together.
Ruth decides that a party is what the train needs as the Eternal Engineer, Melanie, is back with them and their journey to New Eden continues.
As Melanie finds out about the lie of New Eden, she suddenly feels conflicted about the situation. She knows very well that lies are necessary to keep Snowpiercer afloat, she did this in the first season of the show where she lied to everyone about Wilford’s existence in the Eternal Engine. However, this time, the circumstances cannot warrant a lie so huge that it could give false hope to everyone aboard.
Melanie cannot accept the fact that Layton would put the lives of everyone on Snowpiercer in a quest to prove that life can still exist beyond rail cars without any guarantee that New Eden is, indeed, a safe place to start again. Looking at her research, the Arabian warmth spot doesn’t hold enough assurance that life can survive in the said region, even thinking of the mission as a suicidal act.
At the party, Melanie talks to Layton on why he pursues the mission and Layton is in full belief that Snowpiercer needs New Eden considering their resources are running low and they have to take the journey. He also shares that he wants a future for his daughter to live a life beyond train cars. He asked Melanie if she could stick to their lie.
Melanie still chooses to save the lives of everyone on the train. Because of this, she reveals the secret of Layton to everyone saying that Layton did not ever step foot on New Eden and they don’t even know whether life really exists in the region.
Meanwhile, Wilford is out in the open again as he escaped his cell or something like a luxurious prison cabin at the library. This doesn’t stop him from getting away. LJ made a plan with Mrs. Headwood to help Wilford come out of imprisonment. Despite her husband Oz’s opposition, she still gives it out to a housekeeper.
Wilford uses the poison to put on the cigars of his guards to kill them and escape. With the citizens of Snowpiercer still angry at Layton for the lie, Wilford knows very well that this could lead to another revolt.
