It's been a long wait but we now have the first trailer for the Snake Eyes movie which actually has a fitting subtitle. In addition to that, the official synopsis for the G.I. Joe spin-off film reveals how Henry Golding's character ends up becoming a part of the Arashikage.
The trailer actually debuted at the MTV Movie & TV Awards before being shared by Paramount Pictures. It opens with a car chase AND a sword fight on a moving vehicle as a motorcyclist jumps from their bike and joins the action.
It's pretty obvious that Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is serious about its action scenes but also eager to dive into the ninja commando's story. "Every warrior has a beginning," a man declares as Golding's character rappels into a subterranean cave and prepares to fight.
It is revealed that the Arashikage has been around for six hundred years and that the ninjas have been keeping the peace for centuries. One of the interesting revelations here is that it's Storm Shadow (Andrew Koji) who recruits Snake Eyes into the clan.
The official synopsis for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins reads as follows:
"Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent.
"Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing something he's been longing for: a home. But, when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes' honor and allegiance will be tested – even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him."
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins also stars Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta, and Iko Uwais as Hard Master. The film will premiere on July 23, 2021.
