Snake Eyes: The Baroness Almost Got Her Own Solo Film

There is little doubt that fans are excited about the Snake Eyes movie as it is finally set to premiere in a few months. However, there was a time when another character was supposed to get their own G.I. Joe spin-off film. It has been revealed that Cobra's femme fatale Baroness was set to star in her own standalone flick.

It's no secret that Paramount Pictures has been looking for a way to expand the G.I. Joe film franchise after 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation. There have been several ideas floating around and interestingly, the studio chose to pursue a Snake Eyes solo movie despite the character's lack of dialogue.

Although we love how we will finally learn more about the mysterious Snake Eyes, it has been revealed that the G.I. Joe character wasn't Paramount's first choice for a standalone project. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has just told Entertainment Weekly that they considered a standalone movie focusing on The Baroness.

"We never developed it, but we did debate," di Bonaventura said. "She's such a deliciously evil character."

This would have been an awesome idea and it could still be something to explore in the future. In the meantime, The Baroness will be played by Úrsula Corberó in Snake Eyes this July.

Snake Eyes is directed by Robert Schwentke and stars Henry Golding as the titular character, Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Peter Mensah as Blind Master, and Iko Uwais as Hard Master. The movie is scheduled for release on July 23, 2021.
