Singer Ha Sung Won To Start Military Service After Recovering From COVID-19

Singer Ha Sung Woon began his mandatory military service after initially postponing it.

South Korea has been following the conscription established in 1957, which requires all able male citizens to undergo compulsory military service. They undergo 18 to 21 months of service, but the government also offers an exemption to athletes and artists who make notable works internationally.

Ha Sung Woon, who is now 28 years old, entered the military after facing a health issue.

Ha Sung Woon’s Enlistment

Big Planet Made, Ha Sung Woon’s agency, confirmed on Monday that the singer would begin his mandatory military service. The official statement, according to Korea JoongAng Daily, did not contain details about the enlistment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The location and time of Ha's enlistment will not be disclosed to prevent Covid-19 infections [from fans gathering] and as the artist preferred to make a quiet enlistment," the agency said.

It will also make him safe, especially since he just recovered from COVID-19.

For what it’s worth, the singer confirmed in August that he would start his duty as a soldier on September 5. However, he tested positive for the dreaded virus days before the scheduled beginning.

This led him and his agency to postpone the date. After recovering, Ha Sung Woon now started his 18-month military service.

Ha Sung Woon Leaves Fans Best Gift

Before his enlistment, the former WANNA ONE member released his comeback mini album, Strange World. He also uploaded the official music video for its title track, FOCUS, on August 24.

It marked his first album with Big Planet Made after leaving Star Crew Entertainment. It followed his last release, Electrified: Urban Nostalgia, which he released in November 2021.

Amid his solo success, fans constantly look back at his time with Hotshot when he debuted with the band in 2014. They disbanded in 2021.

Ha Sung Woon also competed in Produce 101 and debuted in the project boy group, WANNA ONE.
