Shinhwa member Shin Hye Sung gets entangled in a middle of a big controversy after being arrested due to the suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) on Tuesday, October 11. The singer-songwriter’s agency, Liveworks Company, now released an official statement to address the issue.
Aside from DUI, Shin Hye Sung also refused to take a breathalyzer test at the Tancheon 2-gyo bridge in the Songpa district of Seoul, resulting in his arrest. So, what really happened?
Shin Hye Sung’s Arrest
According to Soompi, the police received a report about a car parked in the middle of the road, causing traffic this morning. When they arrived, they saw the male idol asleep inside the vehicle.
They asked him to take a breathalyzer test, but he refused. To make matters worse, the car he was driving was reportedly stolen and not his.
Shin Hye Sung’s Agency Issues Statement
So, to shut down all the wrongful claims against its talent and to air its side, Liveworks released an official statement.
“We would first like to inform you of the company’s findings thus far in regards to the drunk driving incident involving Shin Hye Sung, which occurred earlier this morning,” it said.
It then revealed that Shin Hye Sung had a meeting with acquaintances at a restaurant in Gangnam district around 11 p.m. on Monday, October 10.
The company admitted he drank alcohol and came home after getting the key to his vehicle from the valet attendant.

“On his way home, he fell asleep while stopped on the road, refused to take the breathalyzer test ordered by the dispatched police, and was arrested,” it continued.
Liveworks knew there was no excuse for what the 42-year-old star did, driving under the influence and not knowing whose vehicle he was using.
That said, it issued an apology. “We are deeply apologetic to everyone,” it added.

“Liveworks Company will let you know more as we come to know the exact situation,” it promised. “We once again apologize for causing such concern.”
The Stolen Vehicle
Eventually, the owner of the vehicle was seen, and when asked if he knew Shin Hye Sung, the owner said, “I do not know this man.”
The valet gave the actor the wrong car and just drove off.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t the first time Shin Hye Sung got arrested for drunk driving. He was also charged with driving under the influence in April 2007.
