Sherlock Holmes 3: Henry Cavill Reportedly In Talks To Join Robert Downey Jr.

Former Superman actor Henry Cavill may have lost his future in the DCU, however, a new report came in, stating that Robert Downey Jr.’s long-delayed Sherlock Holmes 3 is including Cavill.

According to reliable scooper Giant Freakin Robot, Cavill is bound to join RDJ in Sherlock Holmes 3 in an unknown role. Seeing as the major roles of Holmes, Watson, Moriarty (Jared Harris), and Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) have already been filled, it is possible that Cavill will be introduced in a rare villainous part for the threequel.

There is a likelihood that Cavill’s involvement was drawn by Guy Ritchie, who directed Downey Jr.’s previous two Holmes films and worked with Cavill on 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. While the director is no longer helming the threequel, he is still involved as the producer.

This isn’t the first time that Cavill is joining the Sherlock Holmes franchise. In fact, he actually had the titular character in Enola Holmes alongside Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown. So to watch Cavill in a different light in Downey Jr.’s franchise would be quite interesting to see.

The news outlet speculates that since Sherlock Holmes 3 will feature a “captain of industry” type of adversary set in America, Henry Cavill is potentially playing the role of an American industrialist with Downey Jr. as the British super-genius detective.

Henry Cavill has been receiving nothing but support and sympathy from fans after his DCU exit from James Gunn’s new DC slate. However, the Witcher actor seems to be doing well on his own, finding new parts to hone. Not only will he be working on Sherlock Holmes 3, but Cavill is also involved with Amazon Studios’ Warhammer 40,000 project, and potentially as Spider-Man UK with Sony Pictures.

Sherlock Holmes 3 does not have a release date yet.
