The DC Extended Universe has always had a reputation of being a little too dark, gritty, and serious but Shazam! pretty much changed all that and injected the franchise with some much-needed fun and vibrance that surprisingly worked. Becoming one of the sleeper hits for 2019, it no longer comes as a surprise how Warner Bros. quickly jumped the gun on a sequel and while we won't be getting it until 2023, the second DC FanDome offered us our very first look at the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Fans expected a teaser trailer to drop at the FanDome but unfortunately, despite the fact that the film has already wrapped production, we were only treated to some behind-the-scenes footage. Speaking of, the BTS reel teases everything fans should expect for the sequel, including its main villains Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu). Mythical creatures like monsters, minotaurs, and dragons are also teased for the film.

Interestingly, much like the Shazam Family and their new suits, their official "lair" aka the Rock of Eternity seems to be getting an intriguing makeover as well and it's something that could raise a few eyebrows within the comic book community. Check it out here:

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is already showing a tremendous amount of promise and I'm already calling it now, it will be better than the first film. Here's to hoping though that it won't suffer the same fate as the original which was sandwiched between two colossal Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Giving it a proper release date that will not see it go head-to-head with any major MCU flick will be beneficial for the film and I'm hoping that's the route WB will be going.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to premiere on June 2, 2023.
