The DC Extended Universe has always had a reputation of being too dark and gritty but the success of the original Shazam! film starring Zachary Levi pretty much proved that injecting some humor and lightheartedness onto its projects wouldn't hurt the franchise. Now, filming is underway for the sequel which is expected to hit cinemas next year and director David F. Sandberg just unveiled the first "official" teaser for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Taking to social media, Sandberg began revving up the Shazam! hype engine by giving us our first glimpse at Zachary Levi wearing his upgraded suit. The renowned horror filmmaker purposely gave the clip a dark treatment to cover up Billy Batson's new costume which already leaked online. It's safe to say that this one is probably the darkest teaser the DCEU has ever produced and I mean that literally. Check it out here:
It's safe to assume at this point that the Fury of the Gods will still be incorporating a whole lot of humor into the film and honestly, I don't mind them going back to the formula which made the original film work in the first place. However, it can't be denied that the stakes are about to become incredibly higher not only for Billy Batson but for his entire family as well especially now that Black Adam is set to reemerge and potentially wreak havoc on Earth. That's going to be one hell of a showdown, I can tell you that.
The official release date for Shazam! Fury of the Gods has yet to be announced.
