We just got a new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods and it's an exciting glimpse at what to look forward to in the highly anticipated sequel. For instance, it looks like Helen Mirren and Lucy Lui will be up to no good (for the Shazam Family, anyway) in the DC flick but director David F. Sandberg still couldn't help but praise the new Shazam 2 cast members.
In Shazam 2, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu play Hespera and Kalypso, respectively, the daughters of Atlas who are looking for a weapon that could destroy the world. And although they are playing characters who could bring about the end of mankind, David F. Sandberg tells Entertainment Weekly that Mirren and Lui were fun to work with on the film.
"It was a dream to work with them. We aimed high when we cast the movie, and we got exactly what we wanted," Sandberg said.
"They're both so kickass," he continued, sharing a delightfully NSFW story about Mirren's first day on the set.
"You kind of have an expectation, like, 'Oh, it's Dame Helen entering the set!' But the first day she came on, she's like, 'Yeah! We need more p*ssy power on set! We're here now!' and I was like, 'Oh, okay!'" Sandberg said.
We're not surprised considering that Helen Mirren isn't exactly someone who would mince words and says exactly what she means. Needless to say, Mirren and Lucy Liu are both awesome additions to the DC Universe.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will bring back Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, and Djimon Hounsou. The sequel will also introduce Rachel Zegler as Anthea, another daughter of Atlas who makes a connection with a member of the Shazam family.
Shazam 2 finally hits theaters on March 17, 2023.
