Shazam 2: Lucy Liu Joins Helen Mirren as New DC Villain

Shazam: Fury of the Gods just added another amazing actor to its already-stellar cast. Lucy Liu has been confirmed to play one of the villains working with Helen Mirren's mysterious Hespera in the DC Extended Universe flick.

Variety confirms that Liu is joining the Shazam 2 cast as the villainous Kalypso, the sister of Mirren's character. That means she's also a daughter of Atlas and one of the gods who is furious in the sequel.

Interestingly, Kalypso does not exist in DC comic books and is a completely new character created for Shazam 2. This shouldn't be a surprise considering that her sister Hespera is also a new character. There is a possibility that Kalypso and Hespera will have more siblings who are going to show up in Fury of the Gods.

We're loving the idea of Liu joining the DCEU and is set to play a strong female character yet again. We've loved her in Elementary and Why Women Kill and we're looking forward to seeing her in action again in Shazam 2.

For now, it looks like Fury of the Gods is still in pre-production but there is a possibility that principal photography could finally start once the new characters are cast. We're hoping that this happens soon since, as director David F. Sandberg has suggested, the young cast members are growing up fast.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods will once again star Zachary Levi and Asher Angel as the two versions of Billy Batson. Most of the cast from the first film are expected to return as well. The movie is currently scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
