Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings actor Simu Liu is living proof that the law of attraction is in fact true and a little bit of faith mixed with luck can certainly go a long way and help you achieve your goals in life. A lot of you may not be aware of it but the actor has actually been lobbying for a Marvel role for years now and all the times he demanded the studio to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe paid off.
In 2014, Liu wrote a tweet asking Marvel Studios to introduce an Asian-American hero to the franchise. The said post would go viral and it was clear that Simu was already expressing his interest in joining the franchise. When it was announced in 2018 that the studio is developing a film based on the Shang-Chi character, the actor would do a follow-up tweet to re-appeal his case.
Lucky for Simu, he happened to be in the right place at the right time when he tweeted Marvel because several years later, the studio would give him a call to audition for the Shang-Chi role and he would ultimately land the project.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Simu opened up about his viral tweets and according to him, while the idea of becoming a superhero on the big screen has always interested him, his previous remarks on social media were only intended to be jokes. He explains: "What was definitely not going through my head was, 'Hey, I'm going to tweet Marvel and they're going to get back to me, and I'm going to get this role,'"
Clearly, the stars or should I say the "ten rings" aligned for Liu as he was destined to play the part. One can only imagine how thrilled he is to be playing the MCU's first Asian superhero and I'm pretty sure he is not going to disappoint the fandom, especially those who have been craving for a proper Asian representation in the franchise.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will hit cinemas on September 3, 2021.
