Simu Liu is riding high following the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' trailer which rocked the internet yesterday. The official teaser's premiere coincided with the actor's 32nd birthday but as he was celebrating with the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom, Simu would draw flak all over social media after his old tweet resurfaced.
The said Twitter post from 2012 saw the Kim's Convenience actor throw massive shade at pop star Nicki Minaj's music, even going as far as comparing it to a homeless man yelling at a pigeon. Suspiciously enough, the tweet would receive renewed attention all over the social media platform, and to say that the musician's fans were upset is an understatement.
The backlash was apparently too intense that it ultimately got the attention of the actor who is known by fans for his social media savviness. Admittedly, Simu knew that his old joke wasn't as funny to him anymore as it was almost 10 years ago and in his latest tweet, the new Marvel star acknowledged that his Nicki Minaj remark was "highly dumb" before finally deleting the controversial joke.
Simu wrote: "Well this was a highly dumb tweet. Looks like a dumb 23 year old trying to sound clever." Check out his reaction below:
Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is shaping up to be the MCU's sleeper hit this year and it's safe to assume that the character, although he's basically a "nobody" in the franchise will play a major role in the development of Phase 4. At this rate, Shang-Chi may be considered a dark horse in the franchise but I'm pretty sure the upcoming film will blow us away.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will hit cinemas on September 3, 2021.
