The folks over at Marvel Studios had the perfect birthday present for actor Simu Liu who is celebrating his 32nd birthday today as the studio finally dropped the official trailer for the highly-anticipated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings which marks the actor's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Not only that but the upcoming MCU flick is also being celebrated by fans the world over for its Asian representation which a lot of people have been dying to see for years now.
But despite the festivities and all the celebratory messages Simu has been getting from MCU fans, there are people who are ready to rain on his parade. In fact, some people are now trying to cancel the Kim's Convenience star on Twitter over a 2012 joke which suspiciously resurfaced following Shang-Chi's internet-breaking trailer release.
To give you a little context, the actor apparently made a joke about American pop star Nicki Minaj, comparing her music to a homeless man yelling at a pigeon. Naturally, the tweet, which was obviously intended to be humorous didn't sit well with some fans who quickly lambasted the actor on the social media platform.
Thankfully, Marvel fans proved that they have Simu's back and they were ready to defend the actor and make sure his birthday and Shang-Chi's arrival to the MCU are celebrated properly. Check out out some of the tweets here:
Obviously, people are already trying to find excuses to hate on the actor and it's been an ongoing cycle on social media for quite some time now. One actor finds success and then all of a sudden, people are going to try everything in their power to find something ridiculous to fault them for. Cancel culture is why we can't have nice things and honestly, I'm growing sick and tired of it. This sick internet "culture" just needs to stop.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere on September 3, 2021.
