We already know that James "Rhodey" Rhodes is playing an important role in Marvel's Secret Invasion but it looks like Tony Stark's best friend isn't here to be friendly. Don Cheadle has just teased his character's "antagonistic" role against Nick Fury.
Don Cheadle recently spoke to Empire magazine where he confirms that Rhodey takes up a desk job with Dermot Mulroney's US President Ritson in Secret Invasion (via Collider).
The new job might be an amazing opportunity but it also means Rhodey can't help Nick Fury. Unfortunately, it also puts the two at odds with each other.
"Rhodey's got a new role in this one," Cheadle said. "Our very first scene is Rhodey and Nick Fury locking horns."
"Rhodey isn't an adversary, but he's being more adversarial than he have been before," he added. "That's always been Rhodey's cross to bear."
"Is he going to stay within the confines of being a military man following the chain of command, or is he going outside the box?" Cheadle pondered.
While Rhodey and Fury can't get along with Secret Invasion, there's one character who might be able to assist the latter. Olivia Colman confirmed that her character Sonya Falsworth goes way back with Fury.
"Fury and Sonya are old friends, although I think his office is cooler. I mean, it's in space!" she said.
Colman then confessed that she enjoyed acting alongside Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Samuel L. Jackson.
"Working with Sam though, I loved him! Loudest man you've ever met. Joyful, funny, naughty," she said.
The official synopsis for Secret Invasion reads as follows:
"In Marvel Studios’ new series Secret Invasion, set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."
Secret Invasion will also star Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Don Cheadle, and Martin Freeman. The series will consist of six episodes and is currently set to premiere on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
