Charlotte Fox, who played Esther in the first two seasons of the PBS series, will not be reprising her role in Sanditon Season 3.

Sanditon Season 3 says goodbye to Esther

Justin Young, the showrunner for Sanditon, commented on Esther's storyline in an interview with Decider. He stated that he felt it had come to a natural conclusion and that she would not be needed in Sanditon Season 3.

“I think Esther, where we leave her at the end of Season 2, I think she’s got everything she’s ever wanted,” he said. “She’s happy, married, and now she has a child that she adores so I think that’s the end of Esther’s story as far as I’m concerned.”

What happened in Sanditon Season 2?

Clara Brereton (Lily Sacofsky) foiled Edward Denham's (Jack Fox) evil scheme to have his step-sister Esther committed to a mental institution at the end of Season 2.

Clara, who had recently given birth to Edward's child out of wedlock, exposed Edward's scheme, despite the fact that it meant she would miss out on receiving their wealthy aunt's fortune. She then abandoned her infant son with Esther, who was longing for a child but unable to bring one to term.

Esther's journey is done, at least in Sanditon Season 3, now that she has achieved her aim of becoming a mother and settled the score with her deceitful step-sibling.

TVLine also confirmed that Spencer would definitely not be returning for Sanditon Season 3.

Another character exit

Spencer isn't the only cast member who will not return for Sanditon Season 3. Colonel Lennox was played by Tom Weston-Jones in Season 2. Charlotte was pursued by a daring army officer (Rose Williams). He did, however, reveal a terrible past with Colbourne's (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) late wife. He and his troop also ran up large bills in town that they refused to pay, putting the town's merchants in a bind.

After being dispatched to India, Lennox and his regiment decamped in the Season 2 finale. So it's not surprising that his character won't appear in any future episodes.

Sanditon Season 3 will air sometime in 2023.
