Is Adam Based on a Real Person?

We Were the Lucky Ones is based on a book written by Georgia Hunter, who based her novel on her family's real history.
The main character of the story is Addy Kurc (played by Logan Lerman), who was the author's grandfather, Eddy. The other characters in the novel are based on Eddy's siblings and other family members.
With this, Adam Eichenwald was based on Hunter's grandfather's in-law.
While the Kurcs managed to stay alive and return to their family, the same cannot be said for Adam's family.
In the last episode of We Were the Lucky Ones, Adam learns that his entire family was murdered. This likely happened in real life to Eichenwald.
