Star Wars’ John Boyega Teases Finn Swinging A Lightsaber In Episode IX

After seeing the very first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans were expecting John Boyega's First Order defector Finn to be the lightsaber-wielding protagonist of Lucasfilm's new sequel trilogy. However, while the honor fell to Daisy Riddley's Jakku orphan Rey, it looks like Boyega may be teasing a lightsaber moment for Finn in the last film in the trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IX.

Taking to Twitter, one of Boyega's fans posted a tweet expressing his hopes that everyone will be able to see Finn shine and wield a saber again in Episode IX.

"Hopefully my man John Boyega will truly shine in IX and the Finn character will be shown as the badass hero I've been waiting for him to be since VII. ..and hopefully he'll wield a saber again," the fan wrote on his tweet.

Boyega replied to the post, saying that he and the Star Wars team has the fan's back.

Of course, while the actor may simply be responding to the expressed desire of seeing Finn engage in heroics in The Last Jedi sequel, Boyega also seems to be teasing the possibility of having Finn swing around a lightsaber in the next Star Wars film.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that Finn will become a Jedi like Rey, but it does suggest that fans are going to see Finn borrowing Rey's lightsaber, if but for a moment in the movie.

It doesn't seem like much of a stretch – Finn did try to fight with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) using a lightsaber in The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
