Star Wars might be the most popular science fiction film franchise in Hollywood today, but it looks like Star Wars sequel trilogy star Adam Driver didn't really expect that his role in the franchise would help push his name to fame.
Vulture just recently wrote a detailed profile of the Emmy Award-winning actor, and during the interview with Driver, the publication decided to touch on the topic of fame. Knowing that fame isn't necessarily something that the Paterson star actively pursues, Vulture wondered how the potential rise to popularity affected Driver's decision to join the Star Wars franchise. Asking the actor whether he knew that Star Wars would make him even more famous, Driver's first response was "No."
"I was aware that more people would see it than see most things I do, but I don't think I could have anticipated how often I'd get recognized because it's so different for every person. I'm very tall and I look a certain way. I can't blend into a crowd," Driver explained.
Driver isn't wrong. His bare chest and chiseled pecs in Star Wars: The Last Jedi have caught the attention of fans, that's for sure.
Still, Driver doesn't let fame get to his ego, keeping to his reputation of staying serious and focused when playing his role.
"I like to stay focused on set but it's not because I have a process that I'm imposing on everybody else," the actor said. "Sometimes you have to be more focused in between scenes because what's happening is that, on something like Star Wars, it's pure comedy in between takes. It's stormtroopers running into walls because they can't see through their helmets. So I don't know where the intense thing came from."
Guess fans no longer have to wonder where all of Kylo Ren's intensity comes from. Now, with Star Wars: Episode IX on the way, we're hoping to see an even more intense Kylo Ren now that he's Supreme Leader of the First Order.
Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
