Technology has developed quickly over the past decades and with that comes the fickle attention span of most people. People want to see their movies, trailers, promos fast and that is mostly achieved through mobile platforms.
With physical media slowly losing popularity, Marvel and The Russo Brothers recognize that the only way to survive in the game and promote future films is through the internet.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Joe and Anthony revealed plans of building up their movies via a platform that is not only mobile, but is also accessible.
Anthony Russo stated:
We can't go into too many details about this but we are thinking, very specifically, about [how] to do new ways of what you are talking about with Avengers: Infinity War. We're just in the beginning phases of figuring them out. Yes, DVDs are gone, but there is this wonderful internet platform out there called YouTube.
To be fair, Marvel is planning on creating something called One Shots, short films about supporting characters and side plots that will be released in between feature films via DVD releases.
Although many fans still buy DVDs, viewers who've already seen movies in cinemas rarely do. Certainly, YouTube sounds like a sensible option for releasing their One Shots and further promotions. The platform is also faster and more accessible and will keep viewers' interests piqued. If more people get easier access to promos via YouTube, there will be more interest and most likely ticket sales.
With that in mind, there's a possibility that the directors will use the platform for the quantity of post credit scenes they're teasing for Captain America: Civil War.
