Rogue One’s Chirrut is Starring in Sleeping Dogs

If there was anyone in Rogue One who held our hearts more than K-2SO did, it would have to be the duo Chirrut and Baze. The brothers-in-arms showed us that comedy doesn't have to be slapstick, and that having a friend have your back is the best sense of teamwork ever.

However, we'll be seeing one half of the Rogue One duo in a bigger lead role, though the movie doesn't give us the most reassuring of successes. According to Deadline, Donnie Yen will play the lead role of Sleeping Dogs in Neal Moritz movie.

And yes, that's the Sleeping Dogs that's based on the video game from Square Enix. In the movie, Yen will reportedly play the role of an undercover police officer who needs to take down an entire network of criminal organizations in Hong Kong.

It's no question that Yen has skills in martial arts, as he himself is a Chinese martial artist who had starred in as the Wing Chun grandmaster of IP Man. But I guess fans' apprehension with the movie is the fact that it will be from the videogame franchise.

Even after the promise of Assassin's Creed from Justin Kurzel and Michael Fassbender, the film still has a divided stance among viewers and gamers. Whether or not Yen's popularity in China will bring the movie at the forefront of success ticket sales-wise, we still have to see.

Sleeping Dogs lie doesn't have a release date yet. Original Film is set to produce the film with DJ2 Entertainment.
