Following the end of the second season, it was announced that Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 is in the works.
The announcement of the show’s third season was made shortly after the airing of Season 2’s 12th and final episode.
Instead of a typical announcement, the third season was revealed via a Rent-A-Girlfriend Petit animated short starring the four main female characters in a “super deformed” style.
The short was released on the DMM Pictures YouTube channel as well as on the series’ official Twitter account. You can watch the announcement here:
The special animated short stars Chizuru Mizuhara, Mami Nanami, Ruka Sarashina, and Sumi Sakurasawa, all of whom are played by their respective voice actors in the anime series.
It starts with Chizuru, Mami, and Ruka saying how much they enjoyed the second season and how fast it flew by.
As expected, Sumi had trouble with her line, so she instead showed a message confirming that Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 is in the works.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Rent-A-Girlfriend is an anime series by TMS Entertainment that’s based on the manga of the same name by Reiji Miyajima.
The ongoing manga series started serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine back in July 2017.
The series follows Kazuya Kinoshita, a college student who is dumped by his girlfriend Mami after dating for just one month.
Because of this, Kazuya decides to use a rental girlfriend service to hire Chizuru to go on a date with him.
While the date goes well, Kazuya gives Chizuru a low rating in the app as he felt that the date was not authentic. Chizuru gets angry at Kazuya for this in their next meeting.
But before things can be resolved, Kazuya rushes to the hospital after his grandmother suddenly collapsed.
With Chizuru in tow, Kazuya introduces her as his girlfriend to his grandmother.
As his grandmother is smitten with Chizuru, Kazuya decides to continue renting Chizuru to keep up appearances with his family.
Thus begins their unlikely rental relationship, and soon, other rental girlfriends are introduced in the story.
Right now, there’s not a lot of info yet regarding the third season. But given how the first two seasons consisted of 12 episodes, Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 will likely be 12 episodes in length as well.
There’s also no release date yet for the next season. But it’s possible that it will be released in July 2024 given the two-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, which were released in July 2020 and July 2022, respectively.
