Princess Diana has been gone for 25 years, and royal fans still miss her.

In fact, some of the major things that she did when she was still alive will forever be part of the royal family’s history. As one of the most popular members of the royal family during her time, stories about Princess Diana continue to make headlines today.

In fact, some details from her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 are still being revisited. If Princess Diana were still alive and married to Prince Charles, they would be celebrating their 41st wedding anniversary together.

Princess Diana Removed The Word ‘Obey’ From Her Wedding Vows

But as exciting as royal weddings look, it’s also evidently stressful, most especially for the couple who will tie the knot. But Princess Diana rose to the occasion and even broke tradition with her wedding vows to Prince Charles.

Instead of promising to love, cherish, and obey Prince Charles, she only promised to love and cherish him. Princess Diana removed the word obey from her wedding vows, but those who got married shortly after her didn’t follow in her footsteps.

According to Express, Sarah Ferguson and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, didn’t remove the word “obey” from their wedding vows. Ferguson tied the knot with Prince Andrew in 1986, while Sophie, Countess of Wessex, tied the knot with Prince Edward in 1999.

It wasn’t until Prince William and Prince Harry wed their spouses that the changes to the royal wedding vows were applied. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both removed the word obey from their vows to honor their mother-in-law, who they never had the chance to meet.

Prince Charles, Princess Diana's Wedding Secrets Revisited

Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ wedding was televised for the entire world to see and millions of people tuned in to witness the momentous occasion. But at one point, stress got to the mom of two that she ended up messing up Prince Charles’ name, according to Express.

Instead of calling him Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess Diana interchanged her then-husband’s first two names. She called Prince Charles “Philip Charles Arthur George.”

Other details from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ wedding are more surprising than others. For instance, Princess Diana’s wedding dress had to be altered because she lost a considerable amount of weight. At that time, the public still didn’t have any idea that Princess Diana suffered from bulimia. In fact, wedding dress designer Elizabeth Emmanuel said that it’s not uncommon for brides to lose weight ahead of their wedding.

“Most brides do lose weight. So, we weren’t that worried when she did. She ended up with a 23-inch waist from a 26- to 27-inch,” Emmanuel told People.

In the book Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words, Prince William’s mom revealed that her bulimia started shortly after she got engaged to Prince Charles.

“The bulimia started the week after we got engaged. My husband put his hand on my waistline and said: 'Oh, a bit chubby here, aren't we?' and that triggered off something in me. And the Camilla thing. I didn't like myself, I was ashamed I couldn't cope with the pressures. I had bulimia for a number of years, and that's like a secret disease. It's a repetitive pattern that is very destructive. It was my escape mechanism,” she said.

Princess Diana also had two wedding bouquets when she married Prince Charles, and it was because of Queen Elizabeth’s strict orders. When the monarch tied the knot to Prince Philip, she reportedly lost her bouquet. So, she didn’t want the same thing to happen to the royal brides that came after her.

“We made two bouquets. The first one had to be delivered at 8 o'clock to Buckingham Palace. We had a police escort motorcyclist who took us all through the city to the Palace. Then we came back and by that time they had finished the second bouquet and back we went again,” florist David Longman told Express.
