Prince Andrew sat down for a controversial interview with Newsnight in 2019 regarding his alleged sexual abuse case. Virginia Roberts Giuffre claimed that the Duke of York sexually abused her when she was just a teenager. Now, new details have emerged regarding the interview. Producer Sam McAlister revealed that Princess Beatrice was on the set at the time.
Princess Beatrice Watched Prince Andrew’s Newsnight Interview Live
According to McAlister, having Princess Beatrice on the set proved to be a curveball for him and the entire production team. Her presence also caused some tension because they feared that she would ask her dad to cancel his interview at any given time.
“Yeah, that [Beatrice being in attendance] was a real curveball, because I'd turned up to the negotiation slightly brassy, a little bit ballsy, as I'm sure you've noticed about me already, a little bit ooh, a little bit aah, albeit with intellect and the legal element. But then Prince Andrew said 'oh, by the way, I've brought someone with me.' I'm thinking it's got to be a lawyer, please God for your sake, let it be a lawyer, and then round the corner, Princess Beatrice is here,” McAlister said (via Cosmopolitan).
McAlister also said that he spoke to Princess Beatrice, and it was obvious that he was just looking out for Prince Andrew.
“Now the only thing worse than negotiating an interview with an alleged sex offender in a royal situation is doing so in front of his young daughter. Beatrice was the difference between yes and no [...] I asked her tentative questions as she was just looking out for her dad,” she said.

Prince Andrew Still Criticized For His Controversial Interview
Even though three years have already passed since Prince Andrew’s interview aired, McAlister admitted that she still couldn’t believe what the Duke of York said.
“When I was watching the clips just now, I still can't believe that that was said on camera because who in their right mind would say that? Do you think it's the briefing chat? I have to be honest with you, just before we came on air, I got a bit of a nervous tic. So, I'm looking at the floor, the beautiful floor, I'm 15 feet from him [Prince Andrew], I'm in Emily's [the interviewer] eye line, obviously, I'm trying not to distract her, she's doing a phenomenal job, incredible, and I'm looking at the floor and trying not to laugh,” she said.
During his interview, Prince Andrew denied sexually abusing Giuffre. He also claimed that he’s not good friends with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein.
The Duke of York also said that he could not remember some of the events that happened years ago. And he also expounded on his claims that he was with Princess Beatrice during the time that Giuffre accused him of sexually abusing her.
Princess Beatrice And Princess Eugenie Disappointed With Prince Andrew
Following the interview, multiple publications claimed that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were so ashamed of their dad that’s why they wanted to distance themselves from him.
“The family is very disappointed in the situation. Prince Andrew has embarrassed the family. Everyone right now is concerned about Bea. Poor Bea, she deserves to have the wedding she wants and the public is going to go nuts because of her father,” a source told Entertainment Tonight.
However, McAlister’s recent revelations proved that this was not ever the case. After all, Princess Beatrice even accompanied her dad to his controversial interview.
