Prince Harry recently visited the United Kingdom with his wife, Meghan Markle, to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. But their recent trip was dubbed by royal fans as surprising and controversial.

After all, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were alienated by Prince Harry’s immediate family in public. And they weren’t also allowed to make an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Were Supposed To Have Lunch With Duke’s Cousins

Now, royal commentator Camilla Tominey shared some inside scoop from the Queen’s recently concluded Platinum Jubilee. She said that Prince Harry and Markle decided to return to Frogmore Cottage earlier than planned. As such, they were unable to watch the RAF Flypast showcase.

According to Tominey, the original plan was for Prince Harry and Markle to have lunch with the former’s cousins, namely Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, and Peter Phillips. But because they left early, only the four bonded over lunch.

Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips Didn’t Visit Prince Harry, Meghan Markle At Frogmore Cottage

The second plan was for the four cousins to travel to Frogmore Cottage afterward to visit Prince Harry and Markle. But this didn’t push through either because their lunch went on longer than expected.

“The swift exit meant the couple also avoided a family lunch with royal cousins, including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Zara Tindall, and Peter Phillips, after watching the parade of pomp and pageantry together from the Major General’s Office overlooking Horse Guards. It was quite boozy and went on well into the early evening, by which point there was no time to get to Windsor to see the Sussexes,” Tominey said (via Express).

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Kept A Low-Profile During Platinum Jubilee

Last month, another source told The Sun that Prince Harry and Markle left Britain without any fanfare after staying at Frogmore Cottage for a few days. And the couple wasn’t seen much during the festivities because they were not allowed to sit close to Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.

While speaking with Sky News, royal editor Emily Nash said that the last thing that the couple wanted was to overshadow the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. As such, they kept a low profile throughout the entire trip.

“There was some concern that Harry and Meghan arriving might overshadow things, just because of the scrutiny that would be on the family and the dynamic between them. But they kept a very low profile, they haven’t attended some of the major events, and yet they will have had the chance to spend some time with the Queen. That’s great for [the Queen]. Family is everything to her, so I’m sure she’ll have been really heartened to see them again,” she said (via Marie Claire).

As of writing, there’s still no word as to when Prince Harry and Markle would set foot in Britain again. In fact, their joint visit even came as a surprise to some people because they thought the Duchess of Sussex would never return to Prince Harry’s hometown.

Shortly after the Platinum Jubilee, Lorraine and Russell Myers had a conversation about the reception that Prince Harry and Markle received. Both were in agreement that the couple managed to keep a low profile during their visit.

“Harry and Meghan kept a really low profile. They came to things they needed to come to but they, you know that's what they were asked to come to do, and they did it,” Lorraine said (via Express).

“They did, they didn't cause a stir. They said they would just sit in the background. It's very interesting because when I was in St Paul's Cathedral, lots could have been made about whether William or Charles gave them a nod or a wink. And they didn't. They didn't have eye contact,” Myers agreed.

But Myers also claimed that he noticed Prince Harry trying to make eye contact with Prince William, but the latter didn’t reciprocate.

The royal commentator added that he doesn’t think Britons would see Prince Harry and Markle anytime soon.

“So, will we see them again? I don't think in the near future. I definitely still think the wounds are very raw, but as you said, all center on the Queen, so at least they kept their end of the bargain,” Myers said.
