Prince Harry has never met his father-in-law, Thomas Markle Sr. in person. And he never had the opportunity to meet the former lighting director because they had a falling out shortly before he and Meghan Markle tied the knot. Now that Thomas is in the hospital, some royal experts are urging the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to reach out to the 77-year-old.

Prince Harry Didn’t Consider Visiting Thomas Markle While He Was Dating Meghan Markle

In his article for Daily Mail, royal commentator Richard Kay questioned why Prince Harry never attempted to visit Thomas while he was dating his daughter. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first met in 2016 and they tied the knot two years later.

Prior to their royal wedding, Prince Harry had at least a year and a half to travel to the United States and pay his respects to his father-in-law. However, he didn’t even ask Thomas for permission to marry Markle in person.

“But perhaps the most baffling failure of all was Harry's. Even now, four years later, it is hard to understand why Harry did not meet his girlfriend's father in person, as any prospective son-in-law would do. There must have been countless opportunities for Harry (and Meghan) to have paid a private visit to her father — long before he started giving interviews,” he said (via Express).

Kay acknowledged the fact that Thomas also made some mistakes along the way. For instance, he posed for staged photos ahead of his daughter’s royal wedding. He also continues to criticize Prince Harry and Markle during his interviews and on his YouTube channel.

Prince Harry Urged To Visit Thomas Markle At The Hospital

But Thomas’s recent trip to the hospital due to a possible stroke should thaw his frozen relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. According to Kay, Prince Harry would regret it if he doesn’t reach out and reconcile with his father-in-law.

“Is it really too late for Harry to put the past behind him and reach out to poorly Mr. Markle? I don’t think so. But if he does not, I fear he may come to regret it,” he said.

Meghan Markle Should Show Her Compassion Towards Thomas Markle

Markle is also encouraged to reunite with her estranged father before it’s too late. But days after his photo on a stretcher circulated online, sources confirmed that the Suits alum still hasn’t reached out.

According to royal expert Tom Bower, now is the perfect time for the Duchess of Sussex to prove that she’s a compassionate person and visit her dad at the hospital.

“If we knew what she was going to do, that would be terrific. But what we do know is that Meghan has always said that she's a very compassionate person. And if compassion was at all necessary right now, it would mean she would go to her father's bedside, about two and a half hours' drive south of where she lives, and give him some comfort and reassurance. We wait to see what happens,” he said (via GB News).

During his interview with Good Morning Britain, Bower also confirmed that Markle has not spoken to her dad since she wrote him a letter.
