Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Didn't Want Frogmore Cottage To Be Their Home In The UK

However, it has now been revealed that this wasn't Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first choice. If only they could choose, they would've reportedly opted for Windsor Castle.

The revelation is included in Katie Nicholl's new book The Royals, in which she quoted the late Lady Elizabeth Anson's words. Anson and the Queen were good friends.

"The cottage was a big deal. The Queen's entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her backyard, her solitude, and her privacy. She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, 'I hope they'll respect it,'" Anson said (via Mirror UK).

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle At Risk Of Losing Frogmore Cottage?

When Prince Harry and Markle are in the UK, they still stay at Frogmore Cottage because this is their permanent home overseas. But after they quit their duties in 2020, they reportedly rented out the property to Princess Eugenie and her family.

However, there are claims that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could lose their permanent home in the UK, and it's all up to King Charles III.

According to Birmingham Mail, the new monarch would have to decide what he should do with the royal residences following the Queen's death. And if he decides to evict Prince Harry and Markle from Frogmore Cottage, the couple wouldn't have anything to worry about because there are other private residences there that they could stay in temporarily.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Could Stay With King Charles III While In The UK

For instance, King Charles III invited Prince Harry and Markle to stay with him at the Clarence House for a few days this past summer. However, the couple declined the monarch's invitation.

Earlier this year, a similar story was published by Express. King Charles III reportedly invited the Sussexes to stay with him at the Clarence House over the holidays because he wanted to spend time with Archie and Lilibet. However, Prince Harry and Markle declined the invitation amid security risks.
