Prince Charles is rumored to take over the throne from Queen Elizabeth very soon. Speculations about the possible accession of the Prince of Wales have been making rounds online since it was reported that Her Majesty spent a night at a hospital in October 2021.

The reports intensified after Prince Charles showed in numerous royal engagements on Queen Elizabeth’s behalf after the monarch was advised to focus on her recuperation. Royal fans were also sent into a frenzy when Her Majesty made a special mention about her “sincere desire” for Camilla Parker-Bowles to be known as “Queen Consort” once the Duke of Cornwall officially becomes a king.

Recently, a royal commentator warned Prince Charles not to make his imminent coronation shorter and cheaper to prove he would slim down the Firm during his reign. Keep on reading to know more details.

Details Of Prince Charles’ ‘Operation Golden Orb’ Unveiled

There have been ongoing reports that Prince Charles is eager to cut the number of people bearing an HRH title and senior roles in the Firm when he finally takes over the throne from Queen Elizabeth. Should the “Operation Golden Orb” be confirmed, it would see the husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles holding a cheaper and shorter coronation ceremony to put in full display his vision of the future Firm.

Royal commentator Russell Myers suggested that the public is likely to welcome the idea. Speaking to the Mirror, Russell stated:

"In the modern world, the senior royals are acutely aware of the need to prove they are value for money and the weight of this responsibility has weighed heavily on the Prince of Wales. A shorter, cheaper, and less ostentatious ceremony at Westminster Abbey, albeit with the rather flamboyant codename Operation Golden Orb, will be welcomed by a public more concerned with the ever-increasing costs of living rather than what insignia will be used on postboxes."

However, another royal expert disagreed with Prince Charles’ alleged “Operation Golden Orb.” Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express UK:

"Although any new coronation ceremony will obviously be very different from that held in 1953, it is a bad mistake to believe that the British people want a coronation dictated by cost alone. It will have a huge worldwide audience; the weddings of the Cambridges and Sussexes and the various Jubilees show the vast global interest in our Royal Family."

Richard Fitzwilliams even commented on Buckingham Palace’s latest figure on how much taxpayers should pay for the Sovereign Grant to support the royal family in their official duties. He said to the publication:

"The monarchy is a bargain at its current cost of £1.24 per person per year, excluding security, which includes the refurbishment of Buckingham Palace. I think the vast majority of the British people like the fact that we have the world's most high-profile monarchy and would also want this reflected in a splendid coronation with the Gold Coach being used as reportedly it is planned to be."

As if that is not enough, Richard Fitzwilliams also thinks the coronation of Prince Charles would remain “spectacular” even if scaled down. The royal expert shared:

“As for the idea of a scaled-back coronation service, of course, it will be much changed given the magnificence that surrounded the event when the Queen was crowned. However, it will still be both spectacular and colorful. The 1953 Coronation was one of history's most spectacular royal events. Times have changed radically but we will want a coronation that is different in several ways, but which is a religious ceremony which shows to the world our brilliance at ceremonial."

Other alleged “Operation Golden Orb” details claimed that Camilla Parker-Bowles would be crowned together with Prince Charles, which also happened to the late Queen Elizabeth during the coronation of her husband, King George VI, in 1937. While numerous insiders suggested planning for the future King is well underway, Clarence House claimed the coronation would only be organized when the Prince of Wales officially accedes to the throne.

A palace spokesperson told Mail on Sunday:

"The detailed planning for a Coronation begins at the point of accession. So there are no plans of this nature at this stage.”

The present health situation of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles sparked concerns over whether the heir apparent could have passed the coronavirus to Queen Elizabeth, whom he had met two days earlier. This is not the first time that the Prince of Wales has tested positive for COVID-19.

In March 2020, Prince Charles was also confirmed to have contracted the virus, which forced him to self-isolate at Queen Elizabeth’s Balmoral estate in Scotland. Fortunately, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall have already received booster jabs and even urged the public to do the same.
