The father of Prince William and Prince Harry reportedly got money from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bun Jaber Al Thai, a former prime minister of Qatar.

Royal aides, as per reports, counted the money before being deposited in the Prince of Wales Charitable Fund at Coutts bank. While it is said that there is “no suggestion that the payments were illegal,” the Charity Commission issued a statement that it would review the transaction to determine whether an investigation is warranted.
Clarence House also released a statement, which read:
“Charitable donations received from Sheikh bin Jassim were passed immediately to one of the prince’s charities, who carried out the appropriate governance and have assured us that all the correct processes were followed.”
An unnamed source told the entertainment news outlet that, either way, the scandal is “not a good look” for Prince Charles, who is the heir to the throne. One royal expert previously said the former husband of the late Princess Diana appeared “grubby” accepting a cash-only donation and that his actions had some arguing that he “is not fit to be king” and that Prince William should step up when the time comes.
It reportedly does not help that, just months ago, police launched an investigation into a cash-for-honors scheme connected with another charity of Prince Charles – The Prince’s Foundation. However, the Prince of Wales’ office said he had “no knowledge” of the alleged exchange of British citizenship for a Saudi businessman’s donation.

“[Prince William] is mortified. Charles has embarrassed the royal family.”

Republic’s Graham Smith said the claims were “shocking” and raised ethical questions. Of Prince Charles’ “cash-in-bags” controversy, Graham added:
“Prince Charles met Sheikh Hamad in private, with no officials present and with no disclosure of the meeting in the court circular. Sheikh Hamad faces serious accusations over human rights and has significant financial and other interests here in the UK.”
Norman Baker, a former government minister and Liberal Democrat MP, who wrote a book on royal finances, shared:
“A million dollars in cash stuffed into Fortnum and Mason bags, or shoved into a holdall or a suitcase, and handed over behind closed doors. This is what one might expect from a South American drug baron, not the heir to the British throne. It seems there are no lengths Charles will not go to get money for his good causes.”
In 2021, Michael Fawcett, the closest aide of Prince Charles, was forced to resign after donations to another of his charities, the Prince’s Foundation, came under scrutiny after allegations it offered to help a wealthy Saudi donor secure a knighthood and British citizenship made rounds.
Clarence House has stated Prince Charles had no knowledge of the alleged offers to the billionaire businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, who denied any wrongdoing.
