Michael Maize will be joining Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin as Joseph, a mysterious character, in a three-episode arc. Knowing weird characters don’t sit well with the Liars, will he be a friend or a foe?

So, what role will Joseph play in the lives of the Liars in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin? Fortunately, Maize gave fans a hint of what his character would be like in an interview with Screen Rant.

Michael Maize Discusses His Character in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin

The 47-year-old actor told Screen Rant that his characters would come in later in the season.

“I'm in three episodes in the 5-8 realm, so I'm in second half of the season,” he said. “My character's name is Joseph, and I'm a mysterious man that lives on the outskirts of town who has information that helps the Liars in their investigation.”

Knowing having mysterious men in the series isn’t a good sign for the girls, would he be a friend or a foe?

Michael Maize’s Audition for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin

Maize also told Screen Rant that he got the audition from his manager and found it cool that he got to film near his home in upstate New York.

There's definitely a certain chill, grounded energy living up here,” he explained. “I don't know if that moved into the audition or the character, because it is a small town that they live on, but that's how it came about.”

To give justice to his role, he said he watched a few episodes of Pretty Little Liars to “get the feel.”

Michael Maize on Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s Take of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Riverdale’s showrunner, is the executive producer of Pretty Little Liars, while Lindsay Calhoon Bring, who worked with the former in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is the co-executive producer.

With these two on the helm, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is expected to be darker and edgier than its predecessor

True to these assumptions, Maize believes Aguirre-Sacasa “adds an edge” to the series while “maintaining the heart within it all.”

He also thinks there’s a dynamic synergy happening underneath his work.

Michael Maize Teases Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin

So, will Maize gives fans some teasers of what they’re about to see in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin?

“Given the fact that I am this mysterious man that lives on the outskirts of town, I have quote-unquote "secrets" that can help them,” he teased.

He also revealed that he didn’t get too involved in the show’s mystery but stayed in his character.

“I just stayed in my own mystery and my own secrets, and how I can possibly reveal those to them to help them in their investigation,” Maize continued. “I stayed in my own world as the character, so I stayed within that as an actor.”

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin premieres on July 28 on HBO Max.
