Pokemon Go Update Receives Mixed Reactions, Niantic Compensates

When Niantic Labs announced that it will be bringing some daily events and new bonuses into Pokemon Go, it's like the excitement brought by the Halloween update was bleeding into the holidays.

Now, we know that there may be some rusty lining beneath it, and one that several players are obviously pissed off by. Over at the official Reddit, fans are exploding over the fact that Niantic has put a speed lock on PokeStops. This adds to the growing frustration for the lack of progress with Egg hatching, Buddy walking, and Pokemon spawns.

In one thread, the discussion touched on the fact that the biggest change, which was the speed lock, was the one left out from the patch notes earlier released. It's as if the developer is expecting everyone to just enjoy Pokemon Go only to realize that once they board a bus or a train, it's time to turn off the game.

One Redditor even had a rather wise question: Why does the "I'm a passenger button" still exist?

True, there are some safety concerns that will be addressed, but leaving out something crucial as this is a bad move. I encountered this while on a commute, thinking that I just kept missing the good timing to spin the PokeStop. It happened five more times I gave up on the game.

Since there is a sizable number of complaints, Niantic does seem to appease this somehow. In a new blog post, the developer confirmed that there will be more bonuses to celebrate the new bonuses.

"To celebrate this feature, from November 7th to November 11th, you'll find more Pokemon out in the world. Moreover, PokeStops will grant more items! Yes—this means more Great Balls, and for Trainers that are level 20 and above—more Ultra Balls!"

Perhaps the consensus among the creators is that the reception will be similar to that of the event. This would have been a nice feature if only they will extend it until the weekend. Just like everybody else, I will have to commute to work and errands during weekdays. That means a leisurely walk to enjoy more PokeStops and more Pokemon caught without the speed cap killing the game is pretty much out of the question.
