Oshi no Ko Touted as New Frontrunner of Spring 2023

While it may not have been the most hyped show heading into the season, Oshi no Ko is now touted as the frontrunner of the Spring 2023 anime season.

Following the premiere of its feature-length first episode, Oshi no Ko became a huge discussion topic among anime fans thanks to its shocking events.

Oshi no Ko Episode 1 Dominates Reddit, Twitter Spring 2023 Discussions

Ahead of the show’s premiere, there was some excitement for the series, especially among readers of the manga.

Meanwhile, fans of Oshi no Ko manga author Aka Akasaka (who also created Kaguya-sama: Love Is War) were also intrigued by this new anime.

Instead of being a light and fun anime like Kaguya-sama, Oshi no Ko turned out to be a unique and grim thriller based on the entertainment industry.

Thanks to its shocking ending and its storytelling and animation quality, the series became the highest-voted discussion of the week on Reddit’s r/anime.

Aside from Reddit, the show was also a big topic on Twitter, with the show trending on the platform even days after the first episode’s release.

The show’s reception was positive, with many enjoying the 90-minute length of the episode as it was properly able to set up the series’ events.

Plus, a lot of praise was also given to the show’s beautiful art style and animation, as well as the impressive voice acting of the cast.

Oshi no Ko Climbs to Number 1 Spot on MyAnimeList

Shortly after the episode’s release, Oshi no Ko saw lots of high ratings on MyAnimeList, enough that it has become the top-rated anime of all time.

Of course, this is far from a definitive ranking as the show’s score will likely go down. After all, this has happened before with trending new series.

For instance, the same thing happened to shows like Bleach: TYBW and Attack on Titan: The Final Season.

Still, it’s all but guaranteed that Oshi no Ko will continue to be one of the highest-rated shows on MAL unless its quality tanks heavily in the later episodes.

Oshi no Ko will continue with Episode 2 which releases this week. Though it’s expected that this next episode will only be around 20 minutes long.
