Oshi no Ko Episode 3 Features Surprise Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Crossover

Oshi no Ko Kaguya-sama Crossover Kana Arima

Things have started to heat up once again in Oshi no Ko as Aqua is about to show off his acting chops. Aside from this moment though, Oshi no Ko fans were also delighted to see a surprise Kaguya-sama: Love Is War reference in the latest episode.

This is the first time that the two titles crossed over in the anime, but in the manga, there have already been several references between the series, enough that many believe that they exist in the same universe.

Spoiler Warning: There are spoilers for Oshi no Ko Episode 3 in this article.

Oshi no Ko and Love Is War being in the same universe makes sense given that both titles are written by the renowned manga creator, Aka Akasaka.

However, there is a difference between his works. While he wrote and illustrated Kaguya-sama, he has only taken up writing duties for Oshi no Ko.

Illustrating the work instead is Mengo Yokoyari, the creator of Scum’s Wish.

Aside from this recent anime reference which happened early in the manga, there have also been several other crossovers between the two titles.

For example, there’s a bonus Oshi no Ko chapter that features a panel of Kaguya working as a photographer.

There, she is named Kaguya Shirogane, implying that Oshi no Ko happens years after Love Is War’s ending.

There’s also the recent chapter where a company named Shinomiya Traffic Co., Ltd is shown as one of the potential producers for an upcoming movie in the ongoing arc of Oshi no Ko.

In the anime’s latest episode, it was revealed that Kana Arima is starring in a live-action adaptation of the in-universe Sweet Today manga.

Eagle-eyed Kaguya-sama fans instantly spotted this reference as Sweet Today is the same manga that was part of a funny gag in Love Is War Season 2.

This was the manga that caused the hilarious “shojo manga brain syndrome” for Kaguya.

From the looks of it, Sweet Today continues to be popular in the shared universe, though it’ll be interesting to see how the live-action adaptation will proceed given its subpar quality so far.

There will be more developments on these in Oshi no Ko Episode 4 which will be released next week.
