Oshi no Ko co-creator Mengo Yokoyari was wowed recently by an America’s Got Talent performance, and for good reason. That’s because the impressive performance used the Oshi no Ko anime’s signature song.
The latest season of America’s Got Talent has been heating up recently, especially as the final stage is about to begin.
Because of this, the remaining competitors have kicked it up a notch, including the Japanese dance group Avantgardey as they recently went viral over their Oshi no Ko-inspired performance.
Avantgardey Wows America’s Got Talent With Oshi no Ko Performance
America’s Got Talent Season 18 has a lot of impressive contestants, though the Osaka-based dance group Avantgardey has consistently gotten a lot of praise from viewers and the judges.
The group’s latest performance might have just been their best yet. In their new dance, the group danced to the Oshi no Ko opening theme Idol by YOASOBI, the song that dominated the charts in Spring 23.
This performance didn’t just go viral because of the song though. Avantgardey’s performance was excellent as all the members were in perfect sync, enough that the judges gave them a standing ovation.
Despite their excellent showing, Avantgardey did not make it to the top 3, which meant that they were eliminated.
But this wasn’t the end of the road for the group. Avantgardey was nominated by judge Howie Mandel for the episode’s Instant Save.
The group then received enough votes at the end among the participants chosen in the Instant Save. Thanks to this, Avantgardey booked their spot in the Finals.

Oshi no Ko Co-Creator Mengo Yokoyari Reacts to Avantgardey’s Performance
Aside from getting a lot of attention from regular viewers and anime fans, Avantgardey’s Oshi no Ko performance was even noticed by co-creator Mengo Yokoyari.
Despite being busy with illustrating the series weekly, Yokoyari is notably active on X (formerly Twitter) as she often shares updates about herself and the series.
One of her latest updates is a share of Avantgardey’s performance, which she called amazing. Yokoyari’s followers thought so too as they also praised the dance number.
With Avantgardey making a splash even among anime fans, there’s no doubt that the group will have even more support for the finals, which will air from September 26 to 27.
This isn’t the first time that Yokoyari talked about a noteworthy Idol dance. A few months ago, she happily posted about the popular K-pop group Twice as they made a TikTok dance for the anime’s popular opening.
