Onew broke a new record when he dropped his comeback album, DICE.
Earlier this month, Onew made his highly-anticipated comeback with his second mini-album. Only a week after its release, Hanteo Chart confirmed that the K-pop idol surpassed his own record by selling 52,163 copies of the album on April 11 alone.
Previously, he recorded a first-week sales record of 31,552 with his debut album, VOICE. Now, his DICE sold an impressive 94,593 copies in just one week.
While Onew surely poured everything he has while making the album, he also revealed how SHINee influenced his new project.
Onew Says He Wouldn’t Be Anywhere Without SHINee
The SM Entertainment artist recently became Marie Claire’s subject in the magazine’s latest pictorial. After posing in front of the camera, Onew sat down for an interview and talked about different topics, including SHINee.
With his career as a solo artist, he candidly spoke about SHINee’s role in helping him build himself outside the group. He revealed that the boy group became his driving force that he always thinks he would not be able to be where he is right now without them.

“If I didn’t have SHINee, I wouldn’t have been able to do the music I wanted to do. As time goes by, the image of my performances may change a lot. However, I want to protect the stage for a very long time,” he went on.
Indeed, following SHINee’s debut in May 2008, Onew became one of the best-selling artists in South Korea.
Onew Plans To Show More of Himself After Solo Comeback
Before his recent interview with Marie Claire, he previously told the same outlet that he is SHINee-like. After dropping DICE, the K-pop idol reportedly started promoting while being Onew-like.
He further explained that being Onew-like allows him to show a good image despite having a slow pace. According to Onew, he always has an active promotion and non-active period throughout his career.
After giving his all during his active phase, the K-pop star wants to show something else when he is not active.
“In my non-active period, I want to showcase a lot, but I tend to be a slow-paced perfectionist. Instead, I assure you that I won’t ever show you less of me,” he went on.
