It has taken a while, but finally, the One-Punch Man web manga is back with a new chapter after a nearly two-year hiatus.
The web manga’s 142nd chapter was finally released on Saturday, and it marks the series’ long-awaited return.
After all, Chapter 141 was released back on July 5, 2021. And since then, no new updates were given.
With the web manga’s return, many fans are excited, as this might mean the Young Jump manga version might get more updates in the coming weeks and months.
One-Punch Man: Jump Manga vs. Original Web Manga
It’s fair to say that One-Punch Man is one of the most popular series right now, and this is thanks in large part to the Madhouse anime adaptation that was released back in 2015.
As with most popular shounen anime, One-Punch Man is based on a manga of the same name. Unbeknownst to more casual fans though, there are two different ongoing manga.
Arguably, the more popular one is the ongoing manga that’s illustrated by esteemed artist Yusuke Murata that’s serialized in Tonari no Young Jump.
While some think that this Jump manga is the original, it is actually a remake of the original web manga that’s written and illustrated by ONE, the series creator.
The story behind the two ongoing manga is that ONE began the series as a webcomic back in 2009. And despite its rather crude art style, it quickly gained a dedicated following.
Then, in 2011, ONE was approached by Murata and offered to remake the webcomic. After ONE accepted the deal, Murata got a deal with Shueisha to publish the work.

One-Punch Man Web Manga Returns After Two Years
Unlike most shounen manga that have either a weekly or a monthly release schedule, both One-Punch Man manga don’t have strict schedules.
The web manga version by ONE has also had several lengthy hiatuses over the past years. And in July 2021, ONE took another break, leaving fans with no new webcomic chapters for nearly two years.
Finally, Chapter 142 is available on the series’ official website, and because of this, fans are hoping that the Jump manga will also get more timely updates.
As the manga remake follows the same story as the web manga, its release schedule is somewhat dependent on the original.
With the web manga’s return, fans hope that new Jump manga chapters will be released in 2–3-week intervals.
For now, there’s no word yet on when the next chapters of either series will be released.
