In case there was any doubt about its success, the One Piece live-action series is a big hit as it has gotten over 18 million views since its release on Netflix last August 31.
The show’s viewership number was reported by Deadline and is based on Netflix’s data during the week of August 28 to September 3, 2023. This should mean the current view count should be a bit higher.
Although it’s not a record-breaking show by any means, it still has great numbers, especially when compared to other anime live-action adaptations.
Netflix’s One Piece Has Broken the Live-Action Anime Curse
While there was a lot of hype behind Netflix’s One Piece, fans were worried that the live-action anime curse would affect it. After all, most Netflix live-action adaptations of anime were flops, to say the least.
Cowboy Bebop is the biggest example of this as the show was canceled shortly after its first season’s premiere. Original series creator Shinichiro Watanabe also has some harsh words for it.
Thankfully, the One Piece live-action series did not suffer the same fate as it has gotten great reviews from both critics and fans.
The show got a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes when the reviews poured in after its release. Many reviewers praised the series’ engaging story and great cast performances.
The series also became the top TV show on Netflix during the weekend in over 80 countries. This is a commendable feat, especially as it topped the charts in major markets like the US and Japan.

One Piece Live-Action Gets Over 18 Million Views in Its First Four Days
Aside from topping the TV Show charts, it was confirmed recently by Deadline that the One Piece live-action series got 18.5 million views during the show’s first few days.
This is quite an impressive number on its own, though interestingly, it’s still noticeably lower than some of Netflix’s other chart-topping hits.
For instance, Wednesday got around 43 million views in its first week while Queen Charlotte got 24 million views.
While it might not be a record-breaker, it’s fair to say that One Piece has been a success.
The show’s viewership count will likely get much higher as the word-of-mouth for the series has been positive.
This should also mean there’s now a higher chance for Netflix to renew the series for a second season, but we’ll likely have to wait a while before that gets announced.
