Unlike most anime live-action adaptations, Netflix’s One Piece had a lot of hype behind it. Upon release, the show exceeded all expectations as the One Piece live-action show has topped the Netflix TV Show charts in over 80 countries.

This live-action series was released on Netflix on August 31, and it has quickly become a huge hit when it comes to viewership. However, that’s not the only win for One Piece as the show has also gotten great reviews.

Many live-action anime adaptations are met with skepticism from fans given their bad rap. But the One Piece live-action series is different as it was highly anticipated by most fans.

The excitement turned out to be warranted as the show bucked the trend of live-action adaptations being bad. This is based on the show’s great reviews from both critics and fans.

For starters, One Piece reviews poured in upon release day, and most of them were positive, enough that the show got a Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Perhaps more importantly, fans are also loving the series. While many noted that it strayed far from the source material at times, fans still loved how it kept true to the spirit of the original.

Praise was also given to the show’s cast who did great as their characters. This is no easy feat, especially considering how beloved the Straw Hat Crew is along with the rest of the series’ cast.

Along with great critic and fan reviews, One Piece is also now a certified streaming hit as it has topped the Netflix TV Show charts in 84 countries during the weekend, according to data from FlixPatrol.

Among these countries is the US – arguably Netflix’s biggest market. What’s more, the show also became number one in Japan.

This is definitely good news for the show as it proves even Japanese audiences liked the adaptation.

It remains to be seen if the show will continue to be at the top of the charts, but from the looks of it so far, it should be fair to call this show a success. This should also mean that a second-season renewal is more likely now.

All eight episodes of the One Piece live-action series are now streaming globally on Netflix.
