The One Piece live-action series is on track to be a long-running Netflix series. How long will it run? Well, the One Piece live-action producers hope that the show can get 12 seasons as there’s a lot of material to work with.

In an interview with Deadline, Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein said he hoped the show could get 12 seasons when asked about his thoughts on the second season.

At the time of the interview, Season 2 has not yet been confirmed. But now, the show has been renewed by Netflix as it exceeded expectations.

Unlike most other live-action anime adaptations, Netflix’s One Piece had a lot of hype behind it. This is partly thanks to the promising previews and Eiichiro Oda’s involvement.

The show was finally released on August 31, and it quickly exceeded expectations as most One Piece fans enjoyed the series.

Aside from fans, the show also received lots of praise from critics to the point that it got a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes after the reviews started pouring in.

One Piece’s critical and fan reception is one thing, but what proves that the show was a big success is its streaming numbers.

In the week following its release, it was revealed that the show got over 18 million views in its first few days. While this is not a record-breaker for Netflix, it still exceeded the streaming platform’s expectations.

Thanks to the show’s success, Netflix and Eiichiro Oda announced that the show has been renewed for a new season. This next season will finally feature the fan-favorite Chopper, as per Oda’s message.

With Season 2 confirmed, Tomorrow Studios isn’t taking it slow as they already have plans for more seasons.

Aside from Adelstein saying that he hopes to get 12 seasons out of the show, executive producer Becky Clements also said that they easily have six seasons given how there are over 1,000 chapters in the manga.

At this point, getting to 12 seasons is definitely a tall order, but given the success of the first season, the show is definitely on the right track.

The One Piece live-action series is now streaming worldwide on Netflix. For now, there’s no word yet on a release window for the second season.
