The One Piece live-action series has performed beyond expectations in terms of reviews and streaming numbers. Because of this, Netflix and Eiichiro Oda confirmed that One Piece Live-Action Season 2 is official, and it will introduce the fan-favorite Chopper.

Its second season renewal was revealed in a special message by Eiichiro Oda. In typical Oda fashion, he did not show his face in the video, though he did reveal some interesting information about the upcoming season.

Live-action anime adaptations are often thought of as cursed as most of them are simply not good, according to fans. This is the case with Netflix’s previous projects like the Death Note and Cowboy Bebop live-action.

Finally, Netflix broke the curse with its One Piece live-action series. Even before the show’s premiere, many fans were excited about it. When it was released, the show exceeded all expectations.

Given this, it’s no surprise that Netflix quickly greenlit the show’s second season. As with the show’s initial announcement back in 2020, the news was shared with fans by Eiichiro Oda in a special message.

In his message, Oda shared that hard work from the production team was “truly worth it” given the show’s great reception. He also shared that Netflix has decided to renew the show.

Oda also said that it will take a while for the scripts to get read, so fans may have to wait sometime before it releases.

This is in contrast to a recent interview with Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein, who said that the scripts are ready.

It’s unclear if the show’s scripts are actually ready or not, but what we can say for certain is that the fan-favorite Tony Tony Chopper will finally debut in the One Piece live-action series.

That’s because Oda ended his message by saying “It seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor… We will see!”. This pretty much confirms that Chopper will appear in the show.

This also makes sense given that the Drum Island arc, where he’s introduced, happens early into the Straw Hat Crew’s adventure in the Grand Line.

It’ll be interesting to see how the production team will bring Chopper to life. Some fans believe that he will be made with CGI while others hope for a puppet like The Mandalorian's Grogu to be made.

For now, there’s no word yet on a release date for Season 2 of the One Piece live-action series.
