The new One Piece movie is currently showing in cinemas across Japan as well as in other countries, and it continues to be a big hit. Recently, it was announced that One Piece Film: Red has earned over 6 billion yen at the box office.
According to a report by Kogyo Tsushin, One Piece Film: Red earned 6.474 billion yen (around USD 48.5 million) as of August 14, meaning it reached this major milestone in just nine days as it was released in cinemas on August 6.
Specifically, Film: Red achieved this box office haul with 4.62 million tickets sold.
Given that it has just been over a week since its release, it’s likely that the film’s box office numbers will continue to rise, especially when it releases in other countries.
To put its record into perspective, the previous film One Piece: Stampede earned JPY 5.53 billion during its entire theatrical run in Japan. Now, Film: Red beat it in record time.
Aside from Japan, the film is also a massive hit in France, a country that has a lot of One Piece fans. Specifically, the movie recorded the highest number of first-day ticket sales ever for an anime film in the country.
One Piece Film: Red is the fifteenth feature film in the franchise, and it follows Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew as they make their way to Uta’s concert.
Unbeknownst to the Straw Hats, Luffy knows Uta from his childhood as she is Shanks’ daughter.
Uta is a significant character as not only does popular Japanese singer Ado provide her singing voice, but she is also the first canon movie character in years.
The movie is also significant as it features Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates who are confirmed to play a major role in the movie.
The next One Piece film was released in Japanese cinemas on August 6, 2022. Fans outside Japan, including those in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and more can watch this new One Piece movie in cinemas in Fall 2022.
