The title of One Piece Chapter 1102 is Kuma’s Life, and it features Bonney eating hot dog after hot dog being painstakingly prepared by ravenous wolves on the cover.
The chapter begins with the chaotic Bonney Pirates, said to have been leaving a trail of injured seniors and children in their wake. They are searching for Kuma as well as Nika, even though there’s a fleet-wide order for their arrest.
As Bonney roams the seas as a pirate, Kuma intentionally avoids her. He doesn’t want Bonney to track him down at all.
At East Blue, Luffy rejoices after he defeats Arlong and his crew of Fish-Man Pirates. His name, Straw Hat Luffy, becomes known to the public at large with a bounty of 30 million berries.
Ace was so proud of Luffy, that he bragged about his little brother’s wanted poster to Jinbei while Dragon prepared to go to Loguetown to check his son out. On the other hand, Kuma thinks that it was a strange twist of fate that both Bonney and Luffy became pirates.
Elsewhere, Bonney encourages her crew to steal whatever they want from bad guys and don’t help other people unless they need it. She also applied lipstick and a golden anti-eyebrow on her cheek so Kuma could recognize her.
On Egghead Island, Dr. Vegapunk’s Pacifista project is proceeding well, just like Kuma’s augmentation. The scientist asked Kuma if he heard about the boy who declared war on the World Government, to which Kuma responded that it was Dragon’s son. Kuma also revealed that Dragon’s son has the power of rubber, almost like Nika.
In Thriller Bark, Kuma is shown talking to the Straw Hat Pirates, saying that he would spare all of them in exchange for Luffy’s head. Of course, the Straw Hats rejected Kuma, which led to him using Ursa Shock.
Zoro came face-to-face with Kuma, declaring that Luffy was the man who would become the King of Pirates. Then, Kuma transferred all of Luffy’s agony to Zoro, saying that he might pass out from it.
Near the Sabaody Archipelago, Kuma receives news about Ace’s public execution. As one of the seven warlords of the sea, Kuma needs to be summoned, for there will be war with the Whitebeard Pirates.
Later, Bonney finds herself in the Sabaody Archipelago, chomping on some food. Kuma looks out for her in the shadows, feeling happy for what Bonney has become. That’s when Kuma heard that some pirates attacked the Celestial Dragons and a battleship was coming from the Marine Headquarters.
It turns out it was the Straw Hat Pirates, and they were protecting a fish-man. It was an act of high treason, the likes of which none have accomplished in many centuries. Then, we see Kuma apologizing to Dragon and Ivankov for leaving behind the mark of his existence in Bonney and Luffy’s future.
Back at Egghead, St. Jay Garcia Saturn of the Gorosei wants Dr. Vegapunk to have a self-destruct switch on Kuma. In exchange, Dr. Vegapunk demands to retain a little willpower by testing his new neural pathway invention on Kuma. Still, Saturn rejects Dr. Vegapunk’s idea.
It’s been two long years, but Dr. Vegapunk has to flip the switch on Kuma. Dr. Vegapunk also confirms Kuma’s first mission, which is to fight against the Whitebeard Pirates. Kuma is fine with it, but he also wants Dr. Vegapunk to program a mission into himself, which is to stand guard over the Straw Hats’ ship.
Kuma wants to protect the crew’s home until one of them returns to it, even though he won’t be around to witness their growth. He sees something in Luffy’s actions that shakes the very core of his being. He assumes that Luffy will be a hero capable of bringing great transformation to the sea.
Afterward, Kuma provided Vegapunk with his material for scientific research—his memory. Kuma reminds Dr. Vegapunk that once it’s touched, it will vanish. Thankfully, the scientist reveals that he built a system that will allow him to see inside Kuma’s memories without contact.
Dr. Vegapunk cries as he flips the switch on Kuma, saying that his death is a nuisance to every person who’s ever known and loved him. He also called Kuma a hero to Bonney and them all, to which Kuma gave thanks.
Before the chapter ends, Kuma asks Dr. Vegapunk to wish Bonney a happy 10th birthday, should the day come that they see each other.
