Kuma and Ginny’s First Encounter in God Valley
Before everything went down the drain, Kuma and Ginny had the best time of their lives when they were still living together in the Sorbet Kingdom.
They first met each other in the God Valley incident, where the Poverty Eradication Tournament was once held.
Both of them were slaves to the tournament, and they were hunted down by different participating pirate groups, including the Rocks Pirates and the Roger Pirates.
Even Monkey D. Garp was there, not because he wanted to support the World Nobles but because he was chasing Gol D. Roger.
As the chaos unfolds on the island, Kuma, Ginny, and Emporio Ivankov steal the tournament’s grand prize: the Paw-Paw devil fruit and the Fish-Fish Fruit, Azure Dragon Model.
Only Kuma was successful in eating the Paw-Paw devil fruit, as Ivankov failed to munch on it after Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) stopped him at the last minute.
Thanks to the power of the Paw-Paw devil fruit, Kuma was able to escape from God Valley along with the other slaves, including Ivankov and Ginny.
They regrouped in the Sorbet Kingdom in the South Blue, but eventually, Ivankov parted ways with the rest of the group to chase his dream of going to the sea.
Ginny, on the other hand, decided to stay with Kuma in the chapel as she thought about what she wanted to accomplish in her life.
The Progress of Kuma and Ginny’s Relationship Over Time
Kuma and Ginny had so much fun together, despite their cruel past. They understand each other’s sentiments, and their personalities match. While Ginny is the impulsive and aggressive one, Kuma makes her calm and at peace in life.
Over time, Kuma and Ginny changed their way of life, from engaging in dirty deeds to keep ends meet to living a very decent life where they were able to help the people.
Kuma made use of his devil fruit powers to eliminate everyone's pain, or perhaps, we can say, redirect everyone’s pain into his body.
Of course, Ginny had a hard time trying to understand Kuma’s actions. Even so, she is more than determined to support Kuma at all costs. She may nag at Kuma a lot, but that’s only because she's worried about him.
All good things come to an end, as Kuma and Ginny’s happy days were cut short due to a Celestial Dragon who had his eyes set on the latter.
Does Kuma End Up With Ginny in One Piece?
Unfortunately, Kuma and Ginny did not end up together, despite staying at each other's side for a very long time. Ginny even asked Kuma to marry her, but of course, Kuma couldn’t commit due to his obligation to the people.
At some point, Kuma and Ginny became members of the Revolutionary Army after the Freedom Fighters helped them overthrow King Bekori in the Sorbet Kingdom.
They became the pillars of the army, along with Ivankov and Dragon.
As pillars, they were assigned to separate groups. That’s when tragedy struck Kuma and Ginny, as the latter got kidnapped prior to their reunion.
Kuma was devastated after hearing the news, but he was not able to rescue Ginny at all.
Eventually, Ginny was able to get in contact with the Revolutionary Army, only to bid them farewell. She told everyone about her unfortunate situation and even asked them to take good care of Kuma.
As it turns out, the Celestial Dragon, who made Ginny his wife, dumped her off on some island after she contracted a strange disease.
At the time, Ginny was also pregnant with Jewelry Bonney.
What Is Ginny’s Disease?
Ginny contracted a disease called Sapphire Scales, and it was only diagnosed after Kuma talked with a doctor who checked out Bonney.
There was no cure for Sapphire Scales, which explains why Ginny died. The disease caused Ginny’s skin to grow sapphire-like stones, which can accelerate due to exposure to natural light like sunlight and moonlight.
Before dying, Ginny crossed the sea and sacrificed herself to protect her baby. She died in the chapel of Sorbet Kingdom, where Kuma eventually found her lifeless body.
It’s very unfortunate, but Kuma decided to man up and raise Bonney on behalf of Ginny. He even quit the Revolutionary Army to focus on Bonney, who inherited her mother’s incurable disease.
Is Kuma the Father of Bonney?
No, Kuma is not the biological father of Bonney in One Piece. He only took on the role of Bonney’s father for the sake of Ginny, and that’s it.
It was unknown who Bonney’s father was, but it was certain that he was the same Celestial Dragon who made Ginny his wife.
