The idea of Ewan McGregor returning to the Star Wars franchise simply felt impossible but with the expansion of the franchise in an effort to explore stories that are waiting to be uncovered, Lucasfilm is bringing us the jaw-dropping comeback or not only McGregor but also Hayden Christensen in the upcoming standalone Obi-Wan series.

The series is set 10 years following the events of Revenge of the Sith and presumably ends right before the start of the original Star Wars trilogy. Naturally, some of the familiar faces from the prequel films are also set to return for the series including Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Other side characters like Jar Jar Binks are also heavily rumored to be making their grand comeback to the franchise.

Now, as the series approaches the start of its production, another fan-favorite character is being rumored to return and this may come as a huge surprise to some. According to an excerpt from the book Skywalker: A Family at War (via The Direct), it took 10 years for Obi-Wan's mentor Qui-Gon Jinn to become a Force ghost. The book reads:

Before he and Yoda had parted ways, the old Jedi revealed that Obi-Wan's beloved master Qui-Gon Jinn had returned from the netherworld of the Force, manifesting his conscious mind even after death. It took 10 years, but eventually Obi-Wan was able to commune with his dearest friend, resurrected within the cosmic Force.

With Obi-Wan set a decade following the events of Episode III and the death of Qui-Gon taking place in Episode I, it's safe to assume that the famed Jedi would've already completed his transition to becoming a Force ghost. That of course relies on whether or not the aforementioned Star Wars book is still confirmed to be canon. Still, it wouldn't be too shocking if Lucasfilm capitalized on the opportunity to bring back Liam Neeson to the franchise. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Obi-Wan will hit Disney+ in 2022.
