Lucasfilm dropped a major bombshell today as the production company finally revealed the stellar cast of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff series Obi-Wan which marks the triumphant returns of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to the Star Wars universe.

The official social media pages of the hit science-fiction franchise tease that filming for the highly-anticipated series will begin "soon" and although no start date was disclosed, it's safe to assume that production will begin a few months from now. To those unaware, Obi-Wan will follow the events that transpired following Revenge of the Sith and presumably before the original trilogy takes place.

Aside from McGregor and Christensen, a who's who of Hollywood's brightest actors have all been confirmed to star in the series. Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie are part of the stellar ensemble. Not only that, but Star Wars officially confirmed that Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will return to reprise their roles as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru respectively. Check it out here:

Of course, Owen and Beru coming back to the franchise aren't too surprising. In fact, we've already seen it coming from a mile, or should I say a galaxy away but still, I'm thrilled to know that Lucasfilm decided to keep the actual actors who portrayed them instead of recasting them. It's also safe to assume that they'll be playing a more significant role in the series but the real question is, will Obi-Wan also introduce fans to a young Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa? This is going to be so much fun.

Obi-Wan is scheduled to hit Disney+ in 2022.
