Ryan Reynolds revealed that Nicolas Cage almost reprised his iconic Marvel role in Deadpool & Wolverine as part of the film's cavalcade of cameos.
The newly-released MCU film brought back some of the actors from past Marvel movies including Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Chris Evans (Johnny Storm), Dafne Keen (X-23), and Wesley Snipes (Blade).
While fans were happy to see them reprise their iconic roles, some of them are also wondering whether there were more actors that the film was also planning to bring back before they settled with the aforementioned stars.
Nicolas Cage Almost Returned as Ghost Rider in Deadpool & Wolverine
In a recent interview, Reynolds was asked whether they considered the idea of bringing back Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider in Deadpool & Wolverine.
He confirmed that there were conversations regarding Cage's potential return as the iconic Marvel character, but as we all know, it didn't pan out.
"Yes. Came to a conversation for sure. Yeah, but no," the actor said.
A lot of fans would have loved to see Cage play Ghost Rider again in the film and join alongside the other cameo actors in The Void. However, it sounded like there were things beyond the circumstances that may have prevented it from happening.
It is likely that Cage doesn't want to do another superhero cameo again after playing a Superman variant in The Flash. There's also the fact that he is set to play Spider-Man Noir in an upcoming live-action series and he may have wanted to avoid doing any overlap.
Despite that, fans could still count on the possibility that Cage might play Ghost Rider again in an upcoming film like Avengers: Secret Wars where there is a logical way for them to bring him back.
Deadpool & Wolverine is showing in theaters everywhere.
