New DC Casting Decision Reveals Live-Action is No Longer Top Priority

Batman Hush

Although DCU fans have found James Gunn’s restructuring of the franchise to be questionable, especially given that Henry Cavill had returned for a Black Adam cameo only to find the Man of Steel actor no longer returning for a sequel, Gunn has finally unveiled his DC Chapter 1 slate, leaving fans to rejoice over the future of DC being less uncertain now.

Included in the Chapter 1 slate titled Gods & Monsters are: Booster Gold, Swamp Thing, Paradise Lost, Superman: Legacy, Creature Commandos, The Brave and The Bold, and more.

One of those multi-medium castings happens to include the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos Season 1 with seven episodes, which is now currently in production. Similar to Marvel’s What If…? when it comes to casting the same actors for their animated versions, Gunn plans on doing the same in his new DC slate.

“What we’re doing with the DCU is we’re having animation tied directly into live action,” Gunn recently told DC.com, “Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We’re going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this, as well as in other things, some of which we’ve already cast.”

Gunn also told The Hollywood Reporter that it is quite important for all DCU projects to not only be connected with one another, but be valued equally: “We don’t want the series to feel in any way like step-children or lesser than. It’s just another way to tell a story.”

The new DC Studios co-CEO is determined to rebuild the DC Universe from the ground up, especially given his most recent comment is for fans to not associate the new DC slate as the 'GunnVerse'. Apart from this, casting the same actors would not only establish the connectivity of the characters in both live-action and animated mediums, but in solidifying the actors for their fated roles in the franchise.

Now that the DC Chapter 1 slate has finally been revealed, which film or series are you most excited to see?
