Much to the surprise of everyone over the weekend, The Sandman dropped two additional episodes on Netflix and it leaves the fans and viewers of the show wondering whether there would be a second season for the series. However, creator Neil Gaiman says high performance is not an assurance for another run.
Two surprise episodes have been dropped on Netflix this weekend for The Sandman with A Dream of a Thousand Cats, an animated episode, and Calliope, a live-one, and both of which are from Neil Gaiman's comic series. This raised the question on whether there would be Season 2.
On Twitter, Neil Gaiman answered a query that addresses why The Sandman Season 2 is "even a question" as if it should have an automatic renewal given that the show has been consistently on the top of Netflix charts for two straight weeks, having a high performance overall.
Gaiman answered, "Because Sandman is a really expensive show. And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season we have to perform incredibly well."
Gaiman added that a high performance may not be enough guarantee for a second season, "So yes, we've been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough."
